  “Well thanks…” “Dutch.”

“Dutch. You fellas stay safe.” The Airman flipped down the visor and sped off down the highway. “Should have taken his bike.” Foz said as he watched the soldier disappear down the road.

“Sure, then we’d look like a damned human centipede on that bike. You on the handlebars and Dutch riding bitch.” Reese shook his head. “After that we could all go and pick out matching bras and panties. Fuck, Foz.”

“You think Wezinski was pulling our leg about that safe house?” Dutch asked.

“We’ll soon find out.” Reese said as he moved forward. “Really chaps my dick about Salton City. I hate not getting paid back .”

“You got that bag contained?” Wez shouted back as he opened the chain link gate to the water district building. He dropped the suppressed M4 he carried in his right hand to a low ready position.

“No worries Wez.” Candy stepped out of the entrance to the building and into the warm daylight. His M4 slung across his chest. “It’s packed tight. Are you ready to split, essay? Really going to miss them hot showers bro.”

“Yeah, Candy, me too.” He glanced around the roadway. “We’re clear!”

“Copy that.” Candy quickly stepped back inside the building as Wez continued to scan the area around them for any Norks or infected. There was a roar from inside then the Maverick rolled out of the building and out the chain link gate, stopping next to Wez. The ATV was heavily loaded down with supplies and the body bag that contained Senior Airman Harris.

“Should we close that door?” Candy asked.

“Naw, fuck it.” Wez climbed into the passenger's side of the ATV and carefully shoved his rifle down between his left leg and the seat. “Fuck the Norks. Hopefully folks will find this place and strip it.”

“Careful what you wish for Sarge.” Candy pointed to the right of them as he pulled his M9 from its shoulder holster.

“Crap.” Wez drew his M4 up to his chest. Three men were slowly walking their way. The Tech Sergeant saw they were armed and brought his rifle up to a firing position.

  “Hold it!” Wez shouted.

“It’s all good fellas!” The three men stopped and raised their hands in the air. “We come in peace!”

“Definitely not Norks or Iranians.” Candy said to Wez, still keeping the M9 close in. “That one dude has an arrow in him and the other guys wearing a shirt that says ‘Eat A Dick.’ Maybe they’re cowboys?”

“Doesn’t not, not make them bad guys. You wouldn’t wear an Eat A Dick‘ shirt to your Momma’s house.”

“True, but we don’t give a shit about them robbing this place, just don’t rob us.” “Right.”

“Hey Zoomies.” Reese was getting tired of holding up his hands. “If it helps, a Sergeant Wezinski sent us here. Told us we could help ourselves.”

“Wezinski?” Wez glanced over at Candy. “Ram.” The other Airman whispered.

“Of course.” Wez chuckled. “Fucking Ramacher. Where is sergeant Wezinski?”

“He said he was heading North a bit.” Dutch told them. “Don’t you guys keep track of your movements.”

“Yeah. Coms down.” Wez said offhandedly then looked over at Candy and quietly said. “He’s headed to California.”

“Familia essay, familia.” Wez just nodded at his partner then waved the men over.

“You can put your hands down. The place is yours. Take what you need fellas. There is plenty ” He signaled Candy to drive.

  “Thanks sergeant…”

  “Wezinski.” The Airman grinned knowingly.

“Wez…” Reese frowned. “The other guy is a brother or something.” “Or something.”

“Fucking Ramacher.” Candy said a little too loudly . They both shook their heads then gave the men a wave as Candy stepped on the gas.

“Ramacher?” Reese’s jaw dropped as the ATV roared away from them and off across the desert. Dust and dirt sprayed the men as the vehicle rocketed off. “That was Ramacher?” “What?” Dutch stopped and watched the Mavericks dust trail. “Did they say…”

“Ramacher.” Reese growled. “That damned biker was fucking Ramacher!”

“No shit.” Foz's response to their failure was to calmly light another cigarello and quietly stroll through the open gates toward the building, not even giving the other two men another glance. “So that was Ramacher?” Dutch looked back over at Reese who just angrily stared back. “Holee-shit!” The former medic suddenly broke out into uncontrollable laughter.

“We had him! We fucking had him!”

“Well, shit Reese.” Dutch stopped for a minute to catch his breath. “I guess cleaning out Glory Holes is still on the table!” He slapped Reese on the back then turned to follow Foz into the water district building.

Reese just stood there watching the dust clouds from the ATV grow smaller and smaller in the distance.
